Rehearsals have begun on Euripides’ Andromache; Nereids are stretching and getting ready to dance, characters are arguing and threatening one another with death, songs are being sung, and old wars are being fought again, on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings in Life Hall 075!

Lately, we have received word also that the translator of our text will be traveling up from Kentucky to attend a performance! The text we are using was translated by Diane Arnson Svarlien, and published by Hackett Publishing in 2012, and this will be its world premiere on stage.

Svarlien is a verse translator and classicist living in Lexington, Kentucky. She was schooled in languages and poetry at the University of Texas at Austin (Ph.D. in Classics, M.A. in Greek), the University of Virginia (B.A. in English and Classics), and Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in Bethesda, Maryland. Her latest volume of translations is Ion, Helen, Orestes, also through Hackett Publishing.  A book signing in Montclair during her visit is in the offing – stay tuned!
